Can a yeast infection be treated online in Spain?

Sometimes. A typical, mild case can often be checked by video. You may need tests or an exam if symptoms keep coming back, are severe or unusual, or do not improve.

Can I take oral antifungal treatment during pregnancy?

You should not take antifungal tablets by mouth if you are pregnant. A cream or a pessary (a tablet you put into the vagina) is used instead. Always get medical advice before you use any thrush treatment while pregnant.

Can a yeast infection be sexually transmitted?

Thrush is not classed as a sexually transmitted infection (STI). But an STI can cause similar symptoms. So the doctor may suggest tests, based on your history.

How long does thrush treatment take to work?

Thrush should clear up within 7 to 14 days of starting treatment. If it has not, see a doctor. You may need a test to check for another cause.

How can I prevent thrush?

Wash the area with water and a plain moisturiser instead of soap, and dry it well. Wear cotton underwear. Avoid shower gels, douches and vaginal deodorants, and avoid tight underwear or tights. Antibiotics, pregnancy and diabetes that is not well controlled can make thrush more likely.

Does my partner need treatment?

Not usually. Partners only need treatment if they have symptoms. If sex is uncomfortable, wait until the thrush has cleared.

What if thrush keeps coming back?

See a doctor if you get thrush several times a year. You may need tests to confirm the cause and a longer treatment plan.

Can you have sex with a yeast infection? Is it passed to a partner?

It is best to wait until the thrush has cleared. Sex can be sore and can make the irritation worse, and some antifungal creams and pessaries can weaken condoms and diaphragms. Thrush is not an STI, but a partner can sometimes get itching or redness. A partner only needs treatment if they have symptoms.
