Medical Certificate for Sport, a Gym or a Club
A video assessment of your health before you join a gym, a club or an amateur event. A certificate is issued only if the assessment supports it.
- GP licensed in Spain · No. 484814280
- Secure video consultation
- Itemised invoice included
Gyms, sports clubs and race organisers in Spain often ask for a medical certificate. It says that, at the time of the check, no reason was found to stop you doing the sport. In Spanish it is usually called a certificado médico deportivo, or a certificate that you are apto para el deporte.
Dr. Pedro Yelamo Vera, a GP licensed in Spain (No. 484814280), can do this check by video. He goes through your health history, any symptoms when you exercise and the reports you already have. If the assessment supports it, he signs a certificate that states what was checked and when.
A video call cannot replace a physical exam, an ECG or a stress test. Some federations and races ask for them. Read the rules of your club or event first, and bring them to the call.
Who it is for
- Adults joining a gym or a sports centre that asks for a medical certificate
- Players in amateur clubs and leagues
- Runners, cyclists and swimmers entering an event that accepts a GP certificate
- People going back to sport after a short illness who want a medical check first
What the doctor checks on video
- Your health history, including heart and lung problems, and sudden heart deaths at a young age in your family
- Symptoms when you exercise: chest pain, fainting, unusual shortness of breath or a racing heart
- The medicines you take, and any recent illness or injury
- Blood pressure readings from home or a pharmacy, and recent test results if you have them
- The exact wording your club, gym or event asks for
What to have ready for the call
- Your passport, DNI or NIE
- The form or written rule of the club, gym or event
- Previous reports, an ECG or test results if you have them
- A list of the medicines you take
- A recent blood pressure reading, if you have one
When it cannot be issued online
- The event or federation asks for an ECG, a stress test or an exam by a sports medicine doctor
- You have chest pain, fainting or a racing heart when you exercise: these need in-person tests first
- Diving and other activities with their own medical form that needs a hands-on exam
- Medical certificates for a driving licence or a firearms licence. In Spain only authorised driver and firearms assessment centres (Centros de Reconocimiento de Conductores, CRC) can issue them.
- Sick leave from work (baja médica, incapacidad temporal). It belongs to the public system: your public health service doctor issues it, or the mutua after a work accident. A private doctor cannot issue it.
- Anything that needs a physical exam, tests or a visit to an in-person centre. The doctor tells you where to go instead.

- €50 for a 15-minute video consultation (Urgent Care). If a certificate is issued, it is part of that consultation, with no extra charge.

- It states what was assessed and on what date. It can be in English or Spanish.
- Whether it is accepted depends on the institution that asks for it. Check its rules before you book.

- Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your appointment, with a refund.
- If you cancel later, or do not attend, the fee is kept.
- You must be physically in Spain at the start of the call. If you are not, the consultation does not go ahead and you get a full refund.
Frequently asked questions
Will my gym or club accept a certificate after a video call?
Many gyms and clubs accept a certificate signed by a doctor licensed in Spain. Each one sets its own rules, so ask them first. If they need a specific form, bring it to the call.
Do I need an ECG?
It depends on the sport and the organiser. Some races and federations ask for an ECG or a stress test. Those are done in person. If you already have a recent result, you can share it during the call.
What does the certificate say?
Your name and ID, the date, what was assessed and the result of that assessment. It carries the doctor's name, licence number and signature. It does not say more than the assessment supports.
Can you sign a certificate for a marathon or a triathlon?
Only if the organiser accepts a GP certificate without tests, and the assessment supports it. Many long-distance events ask for an ECG. Check the race rules before you book.
What if I get symptoms when I exercise?
Then a certificate is not the right step. Stop the sport and get an in-person check with tests. If you have chest pain, fainting or severe shortness of breath, call 112.
This service is for urgent, non-emergency care. In a medical emergency call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department.
