Hidroferol is calcifediol, a form of vitamin D that the body uses quickly. It is not the same product as the daily vitamin D supplements common in the UK and the US.
- What it is used for: treating vitamin D deficiency confirmed by a blood test, and related bone problems.
- The most dangerous mistake: taking it more often than prescribed can cause too much calcium in the blood. Symptoms are nausea, vomiting, great thirst, passing a lot of urine, constipation, weakness and confusion.
- How to take it safely: follow exactly the frequency written on your prescription, which differs from person to person. If the instructions are in Spanish and you are unsure, ask the pharmacist or doctor to confirm them.
- Check first if: you have had kidney stones, have kidney disease or take thiazide diuretics.
- Do you need a prescription? Yes.
