Mupirocin is an antibiotic ointment for superficial skin infections, sold in Spain as Bactroban and as generic mupirocina.
- What it is used for: impetigo, infected hair follicles and small infected wounds.
- What it is not for: fungal infections, acne, cold sores or eczema. It is not for the eyes or inside the nose, apart from the specific nasal product.
- Precautions: use a thin layer only on the affected area and wash your hands before and after. Repeated or widespread use encourages resistance.
